06 · FAQ

Frequently asked questions.

When is Swiss payroll mandatory?

From the first employee. Once you sign an employment contract under Swiss law (governed by the Code of Obligations articles 319–362), AHV/ALV/SUVA registrations are required and monthly contributions begin. There is no minimum-staff exemption.

What is BVG and when does it apply?

BVG is the occupational pension scheme. It is mandatory once an employee earns more than CHF 22,680 per year (2026 threshold). Below that the employer is not required to contribute. We coordinate with the pension fund of your choice or recommend a low-fee mass-market provider.

Do non-Swiss employees pay tax through payroll?

Yes — through Quellensteuer (withholding tax). It applies to foreign employees without a C-permit (settled-residence permit). The cantonal rate depends on the canton of work, salary band and family status. We calculate it monthly and remit quarterly to the cantonal tax office.

What is the Employer of Record option for?

EOR lets you hire someone in Switzerland without first having a Swiss legal entity. We become the legal employer; you manage the day-to-day work. Common for international groups testing the Swiss market or hiring one specialist before incorporating. CHF 490 per employee per month, all-in.

Do you handle hiring contracts and HR?

Hiring contracts (Arbeitsvertrag) — yes, on request, CHF 490 per contract drafted to Swiss labour-law standard. HR advisory — we have legal counsel available at CHF 250/hr for specific issues (termination, parental leave, workplace disputes). Day-to-day HR administration is not part of the payroll mandate.

Can you take over payroll from an existing provider?

Yes. We import master data, reconcile YTD figures with the previous provider, and run a parallel month if you want a verification cycle. Switching mid-year is straightforward; we handle the AHV/ALV transfer notifications and confirm with the new pension fund.
